Goings on in the Downtown…

You may have heard that the Business Improvement District (BID) in downtown Waukesha has been dissolved.  While this is true, we hope that you won’t notice any impact.  The Waukesha Downtown Business Association (WDBA) has over 60 downtown business members, Roger has been the President of the WDBA for five years, and they have agreed to take on two of the events that the BID formerly led. – the Farmer’s Market and the Christmas Parade.  In fact, the WDBA already ran last year’s Christmas Parade and the last two months of the 2012 Farmer’s Market.  The 2013 Farmer’s Market is set to launch on May 4th.  There are a number of significant improvements this year including over 40 additional vendors, a family stage, an educational stage and a brand new website www.waukeshafarmersmarket.com

The WDBA is the organization that started and has been running Freeman Friday Night Live www.waukeshafreemanfridaynightlive.com for over 10 years and that event will see some improvements this year as well, including two additional stages of music, bringing the total number of music stages to seven!  The 2013 kickoff will be on June 7th.

The WDBA also started and continues to run Trick or Treat, the Bunny Hop, and Silver Bells, the Christmas season activities, which includes horse drawn carriage rides, the 5K Santa Run, strolling carolers, the Waukesha Tree Lighting and the Holiday Stroll. See more at WaukehshaSilverBells.com.

We hope you can sense that the downtown is alive and well.  We look forward to having you help us make our shopping and dining district a bustle of activity.  Please support your local business neighbors so that we can keep our doors open and our downtown thriving!

For the second year in a row, Waukesha has been declared a Guitartown by Gibson Guitars.  We are one of seven cities that have been given that honor and one of only two that have been allowed two celebrations!  Thank you Gibson Guitars, this is quite an honor that Waukesha has been given.  More info can be viewed atWaukeshaGuitarTown.com. In addition to another 28+ playable and ten foot guitars that will be painted and bejeweled by local artists, there will be five Les Paul themed murals painted the first weekend in June!  You may remember from last year that we have the Guitartown chocolate bar in two sizes to commemorate this honor.

We continue to consider it a privilege to serve our community with the gifts and talents that we have been given.  It is a joy to work alongside the other business owners who give of their time and talents to make our downtown a destination to be proud of.
